2013 Legislative Update Week One

If you know someone who you think might like to receive these emails forward them this link.

The 152nd Session of the Georgia Legislature began Monday with the Swearing In of Legislators, the election of the Speaker of the House (David Ralston), the Speaker Pro-Tem (Jan Jones), the Clerk of the House (Robbie Rivers), and the Doorkeeper of the House (Phil Tucker). No legislation was voted on in the House this week.  On Wednesday, Committee Assignments for the 2013-2014 Legislative Session were announced.

My committee assignments are: Appropriations – Human Resources Committee, Economic Development & Tourism, Governmental Affairs (where I will serve as Vice-Chairman), and Insurance.  Each of these Committees deals with important pieces of Legislation and I look forward to rolling up my sleeves and getting to work.

Thursday, Governor Nathan Deal delivered his State of the State Address to a Join Session of the Legislature.  You can read his full remarks here and watch the video here.

On Friday I was named a Deputy Whip for the 2013-2014 Legislative Session.  Read the press release here.

The House adjourned Thursday and will be back in Session again on Monday January 28th.  Next week is reserved for Budget hearings, which begin on Tuesday.  As a new member of the Appropriations Committee, I will be at those hearings.

Watch the video from my 1/14/13 Online Town Hall meeting. Make plans to join me again on January 29th.

You can connect with me via Twitter and Facebook (personal or campaign page) and see photos from the Capitol on my Tumblr page.  Also, you can watch each day's session live on the internet.

Please feel free to contact me anytime if I can be of assistance.  I'm honored to serve you at the Capitol and covet your prayers and support.
