2014 Legislative Update Week 5

Another week interrupted by a winter storm, this time by one named "Pax."  I hope all of you were safely in your homes and that you did not lose power. The House closed up shop on Tuesday and did not meet again last week.  We re-convene tomorrow and will be voting on seven bills. Before we left to avoid the storm we did pass a revised Adjournment Resolution with a schedule for the rest of the Legislative Session.  Barring future changes, the 2014 Session will end on Thursday March 20th.

Committees will once again be playing catch-up as we approach Crossover Day. You can see all bills that have passed the various Committees on the General Calendar.

Monday I sat down with Rep. Allen Peake to talk with him about HB885, known as "Haleigh's Hope Act." Listen to our conversation here

Here are the results of the most recent opinion poll taken in the vote4buzz app:

Currently a special local option sales tax (SPLOST) must be a 1% tax. Should counties be allowed to propose a SPLOST at taxes rates of less than 1%? Yes: 75%, No: 25%, Undecided: 0%

Our poll this week concerns HR108: Should the State Constitution be amended to guarantee the right to a secret ballot vote in union representation elections? To vote in our weekly polls you need to download the "vote4buzz" iPhone app. Search for "vote4buzz" in the App Store or click here
