The Constitution of Georgia sets the first day of the Legislative Session to be the second Monday of each year. Consequently, the 2017 Session begins tomorrow at 10 AM. You can watch the proceedings here. Since this is the beginning of a new term, I and all the other members of the House and Senate will take the Oath of Office.
Most of this coming week will be organizational as new members receive office and committee assignments, and returning members wait to learn if their request for committee chairmanships are approved. Also this week Governor Deal will deliver his State of the State address and delivers his budget proposal to the Legislature.
As I did last session, I will do a short daily video broadcast live on my Facebook page and my Twitter feed. I hope you'll watch and send me your comments and questions. Part of my job as a Legislator is keeping you informed on what is happening and what the various Legislative activities actually mean.
I'll also resume my weekly email summaries of the preceding week's activities. If you don't receive those emails, please join the email list.
As always, you can contact me at my Capitol office at 404-656-0188 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. You can also connect with me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or via my website.
I look forward to serving you in the Legislature for the next two years. As I tell people, I get to wake up everyday and try to make Georgia a better place. It's a great job and I'm grateful you folks trust me to represent our community.
