Independence Day 2017

One of my favorite Independence Day traditions is the reading of the Declaration of Independence.

I believe it's important to remember why our forefathers did what they did. The abuses of King George and his government directly led to certain things being written into our Constitution such as the right of free speech, freedom of the press, and freedom of religion, among others.

I also want to urge you to take a moment to give thanks to God for our nation. Sure we have problems and our nation hasn't always done the right thing, but we are the ones who will determine our nations future. I pray it's a future filled with righteousness and justice (Ps. 89:14).

As John Adams said, have fun on Independence Day, but pray also:

“I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty; it ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.”
